This study explored the effects of light source, ambient illuminance, font type, polarity and display media on visual performance and visual fatigue. In terms of visual performance, the results showed that ambient illuminance had significant effects on search time. With the increase of ambient illumination, search time decreased, especially from 300lux to 700lux. Display media, polarity and the interaction of display media and font type had significant effects on accuracy. Accuracy was lower for Chlorestic Liquid Crystal display than for other display types, and for negative presentation than for positive presentation. E-paper had higher accuracy with New-Xi-Ming font type, and paper had higher accuracy with Biao-Kai font type. As for visual fatigue, results showed that light source and display medium and the interaction of light source and display medium had no significant effects on the change of CFF (Critical Flicker Fusion).and subjective visual fatigue.
