This thesis studied the crosstalk characteristics of pattern retarder and shutter glasses stereoscopic displays, and compared 2D and 3D visual comfort for two stereoscopic displays by changing ambient illuminance, display luminance, background reflection luminance and image content.
For crosstalk evaluation, the aim of this research is to investigate different brightness and size of test images affecting crosstalk level in pattern retarder and shutter glasses stereoscopic displays. To explore the crosstalk correlation between the brightness variations and pattern sizes.
When people watch 3D TVs, the viewing environment factors play the important roles in the 2D and 3D image quality and visual comfort. This experiment investigated the degrees of 2D and 3D visual comfort in different combinations with ambient illuminance, display luminance, background reflection luminance and image content. In this study, a psychological experiment was performed to compare 2D and 3D viewing experiences for pattern retarder and shutter glasses stereoscopic displays, and to found out the more comfortable conditions under various environment factor combinations.
The experiment results show that the different brightness and size of test images affecting crosstalk level in pattern retarder and shutter glasses stereoscopic displays were significant different, lead the results of visual comfort were significant different when watching 3D images. Finally, this research suggested the more comfortable condition for viewing 2D and 3D images.
