With the rapid development of the Internet, we already can’t live without it. Also, there are many tasks completed by Internet at work nowadays. However, employees use Internet for non-work related purpose more frequently than before, which brings a lot of loss to companies. Therefore, knowing the reasons of employees’ cyberloafing behavior and solving the problem are important to companies now.
This paper focused on examining the antecedents (Big Five and work stress) and consequences (work procrastination) of cyberloafing. Moreover, investigating whether organizational Internet usage policies would affect the relationship between Big Five, work stress and cyberloafing. This paper was conducted by questionnaire survey. The total of 290 valid questionnaires were collected and analyzed by confirmatory factor analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis and regression analysis.
The empirical results showed that: (1)Big Five is related to cyberloafing, openness to experience has significant positive impact on cyberloafing, emotional stability and conscientiousness have significant negative impact on cyberloafing. (2)Work stress has significant positive impact on cyberloafing. (3)Organizational policies have no moderating effect on the relationship between Big Five, work stress and cyberloafing, however organizational Internet usage policies are directly negatively related to cyberloafing. (4) Cyberloafing has significant positive impact on work procrastination.
