  • Based on research, public transportation could affect the neighborhood around in many ways, one of those effect is market growth or business opportunity around the area. A residential area within some distance can be a new potential commercial area if the public transportation passes the area and open some exit gate.
    At the same time, Indonesia is a big and developing country. This study focus on second biggest city of Indonesia named Surabaya. Surabaya is a growing city, there are so many business opportunities nowadays and there is public transportation project (monorail and tram) coming soon to provide the city needs. This public transportation/ monorail project will manage a better infrastructure for Surabaya city. While the government preparing the public transportation (monorail) project, business retail is growing in market that can be seen one by one began to appear all around the city. Concerning that convenience store is one of the fastest sector growing in Surabaya’s market, this study looked into Taipei as an example because Taipei is developed country with good public transportation facility (Mass Rapid Transit System) and well known as world’s densest market for convenience store.
    This study looked into Taipei city which will be taken as a study case to analyze the category of business retail around the Mass Rapid Transit station to figure out development of Surabaya city business retail in the future caused by the existence of station. Targeting some place at Surabaya city that will be the monorail station exit spot and has the same land use with several place this study looked at Taipei city. Several media used to make this study manage to reach the target including literature study, self-observation, and some internal interview.
