With the advent of the information era, the use of information technology to integrate internal information has become a necessary process for the company to grow and develop. The Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system is a management platform that uses the information foundation to provide decision-making solutions for enterprises. The biggest feature is the ability to improve business performance and rapid response capability through timely integration of information. Under the trend of global e-commerce, many companies have implemented ERP systems to reduce costs and improve enterprise efficiency to enhance the company's competitiveness.
In the past few decades, enterprise resource planning has accumulated many literature discussions from different perspectives in the field of social science research management. In order to explore the development trajectory of enterprise resource planning literature, this research will collect scientific research and establish an analytical database using Scopus. The important journal documents included in the database were obtained from the ERP-related keyword search, and a total of 2,511 documents were obtained. Using MainPath Analysis, the main development of ERP was found through the literature citation relationship, as well as the influential scholars, journals, countries, and the direction of knowledge flows. In addition, linear regression analysis is used to explore the relationship between the network status of the literature and regional factors, journal factors, scholars and cooperation factors, and time factors.
The results show that the proportion of the literature is the highest in the US literature, followed by the Taiwanese and British literatures. The reason may be that the practice of ERP is mostly in the US. The main path results initially explore the relevant theories of system operation (from 1998 to 2006). It evolved into the ERP practical application framework and critical success/failure factors of implementation (2007-2015). Finally, the main path developed into ERP-related literature for SMEs (2015-2017). According to the results of regression analysis, the literature generated through cooperation mode is of high importance and influence in the overall network. The specific journals also play an important role in the development of relevant literatures in enterprise resource planning, which has become the key factor of the important literature in the development of following research.
As the development of ERP matures, the subject of scholars' research has different focuses in different time and space backgrounds. This study also finds the direction of knowledge diffusion and the special issues among specific countries over time. As time passed by, we have now accumulated important trajectories and develop a special application architecture.
