A new type of incubation-oriented organization, startup accelerator, has been emerging during the decade according to the uptrend of Internet and technological entrepreneurship. The main difference between accelerator and the traditional incubator, is that accelerator is also a startup ventures itself, which is well-segmented by industry or the expertise of its cohorts. The incubation programs of accelerators is therefore drawing more and more attention and participation of new venture teams
The case studied in this research, AppWorks Ventures, is among the top-scale accelerators of Asia, acclaimed to be the first accelerator founded in Taiwan. Until the date that this research was conducted, AppWorks has been running 4 years, so far come to its 8th incubation program, and cultivated over 150 new venture teams. The research aims to state the performance of its incubation services, by launching an expectation and satisfaction survey among new venture teams that have been stationed in the programs. There are 5 main incubation services classified, and 6 types of products and services derived among the new venture teams. The importance-performance analysis was conducted in order to comparing the relative expectation and satisfaction of services among these types of team. A follow-up interview with stationed teams were to find out the factors that may affect startup co-founders’ dissatisfaction on certain incubation services.
The results of the research is expecting to provide accelerator a reference of the overall expectation and satisfaction of its new venture teams, meanwhile the new venture teams intended-to-join could also know accelerators’ performance on different incubation services in advance, so as to evaluating if such accelerator is suitable for them considering their own needs and growth stage. They are expected to prepare themselves with appropriate expectations to join such program.
