中國大陸近年來，在全球經濟、政治、軍事及科技等方面實力的增長。由於中國擁有穩定而眾多的人口，以及快速增長的經濟和軍事支出，因此經常被視為是一個潛在的超級大國。做為經濟發展最快的發展中國家之一，中國在國際事務中扮演著重要的角色，並且在聯合國安理會常任理事國中佔有一席。
1990年起大陸政府設定外僑獎勵投資辦法，台資企業也受到大陸的青睞及鼓勵而紛紛赴陸設廠，累計至今台商在大陸已超過九萬家，人口約一佰萬人，而芸芸眾生台商企業中，幾家歡樂幾家愁，究竟有多少是成功的例子，又有多少家倒閉呢？眾說紛紜，莫衷一是。為了探討及研究到底有何成功關鍵因素，因此著手研究「台商中小企業在大陸經營管理的關鍵因素─以機械製造業為例」，希望可以透過科學的研究、分析、統計，歸納出成功的關鍵因素，以做為學術研究目地，為企業投資大陸提早擬定對策，找到成功的關鍵因素(KSF)。
