  • Financial technology (FinTech) is still changing the traditional financial services across the globe. FinTech companies are expanding their businesses beyond online payment systems into advanced financial services. One of them, the Peer to Peer (P2P) lending tools have attracted the many startups and consequently they are willing to adopt more advanced services than traditional financial institutions have been able to provide.
In Mongolia, as a developing country, all commercial banks total market share by assets reached at 95% of the financial industry, which means the Mongolian Financial Industry is dominated by the banking sector. Not only large commercial banks are trying to adopt FinTech based services mainly in financing and lending activities, but also some of FinTech companies already have begun to work on financial services. So far the only company emerging in the field of lending is AND Global by introducing LendMN smart application in Mongolia.
The peer-to-peer lending model launched in Mongolia is a very interesting case to be discussed. The research focus areas are lending process of LendMN, the stakeholders of peer-to-peer lending, including the borrowers, investors, and regulators represented in different market which was not studied yet before. Furthermore, in order to get the related data, interview with LendMN representative was conducted.
This research shows that LendMN has been developed successfully in highly competitive market and consequently bank’s consumers will benefit from it. In another words, the traditional services operated for a long time had been aroused up by the LendMN application. In addition, LendMN can be a more regulated alternative to improve responsibility of borrowers among Mongolians.
But FinTech has been relatively new industry in Mongolia, there still has not been well-developed government policy to support it.
