The IEEE 802.16e wireless metropolitan area network provides broadband wireless access for mobile stations (MSs). How to prolong mobile station operation time is an issue receiving much attention. In order to achieve this purpose, the specified in the IEEE 802.16e provide sleep mode operation to make mobile station state switch to sleep state to conserve power. Because of different QoS required, the IEEE 802.16e define 3 type of power saving classes for sleep mode to utilize. Power saving class of type I is recommended for non-real-time traffic. Power saving class of type II is recommended for real-time traffic. Power saving class of type III is recommended for manage and multicasting traffic. Most of research focus on there is single traffic in the MS, while it is high probability there are different kinds of traffic in MS. Thus it is necessary to consider multiple power saving classes coexist in the MS. In this thesis, we design a sleep planning mechanism using next event happening prediction way for power saving class of type I sleep interval planning suggestion. And we consider different power saving classes coexist problem simultaneously. To provide different sleep planning strategy for different power saving classes coexist in the MS to utilize. Via simulations, we show that the proposed scheme outperforms the standard mechanism in terms of packet delay and energy conservation. Even the standard mechanism works with the synchronization operations, our scheme still performs better than the combine mechanism.
