Natural disasters and infectious diseases have struck the world on a regular basis in recent years. Each disaster has had numerous irreversible consequences, the majority of which were unpredictable and unpreventable. However, as various disasters have become more common, human experience in dealing with them has gradually matured, enabling us to take action to address various disaster-related problems.
COVID-19 pandemic has been ongoing since the end of 2019, which has not only captured the attention of people from all walks of life, but has also had a global impact. The massive increase in medical demand, in particular, has compelled countries all over the world to ensure that they have adequate medical systems and personnel. It is also critical to recognize changes in the mental health of the personnel involved, such as the psychological stress of working long hours, anxiety, and negative emotions of isolated patients, which can lead to psychological trauma and necessitate timely psychological treatment to avoid long-term consequences.
In the event of another infectious disease outbreak in the future, we must address the need for immediate space and medical allocation, as well as the prevention of cluster infections. A response system and design strategy for the space required after the disaster were developed by collecting the measures to prevent infectious diseases. In terms of space management, appropriate measures were planned in advance.
This study summarized the problems encountered by the COVID-19 rampage by focusing on disaster management and conducting a literature review and case study analysis. We proposed innovative design solutions for disaster shelters, medical space necessitates, and disaster psychotherapy after analyzing the relevant issues, and we participated in the design competition to validate their rationality.
