The IEEE 802.11ax standard defines an uplink OFDMA-based random access (UORA) scheme to enable multiple stations to simultaneously transmit packets following a multi-channel slotted ALOHA protocol. Existing studies of UORA only considered one pending packet and a fixed amount of resource units for random access (RA-RUs). In this paper, we apply the Packet Reservation Multiple Access (PRMA) mechanism to reduce the number of contentions and consider a dynamic amount of RA-RUs. We present an analytical model that can be used to investigate the performance of the UORA scheme with the packet reservation mechanism under bursty arrivals. We derive the following performance metrics of access success probability, failure probability, average access delay, cumulative distribution function (CDF) of the number of RA-RU transmissions, and the total number of successful packets. The simulation results verify the accuracy of the proposed model.
