xDSL是一種利用現有電話交換網路為基礎，來傳輸大量高速資料，而不需要再增加現有電信網路基礎設備的技術。最早的概念由貝爾實驗室於1987年提出，十年後人們發現它非常適合作為電話交換網路上的資料高速傳輸，二十年後的現在，它已經是全球主流的寬頻上網技術。
目前寬頻網路已普遍為大家所接受及使用，然而全球寬頻接取的競爭仍持續在進行，整個市場的寬頻上網用戶數目不斷攀升，整個寬頻覆蓋率也一直在提升。從技術面來看，新技術的不斷出現，無線寬頻，光纖到府，新技術不斷地尋找新的機會切入；從服務的觀點來看，多樣化的數據、語音和影像需求已經是寬頻服務業者的基本要求，與社群網路的相連結，發展出更熱絡有趣的網路連結也是使用者的期待。從政策面來說，寬頻網路的覆蓋率已是國家競爭力的指標之一，不斷的推動各國政府加碼投資，促進公共政策的推動。
本研究主要探討xDSL半導體晶片供應商在電信網通產業中的產業現狀、產業生態，及產業趨勢，透過市場資料的收集跟分析，結合外在觀察的結果，搭配訪談的加以整理，找出目前市場中的現象並提出建言及看法。觀察整個數位用戶迴路產業由成長轉向成熟發展後，及因應電信自由化及全球專業分工的趨勢帶動下，垂直部分的發展著重於專業分工，然而水平部分的發展則專注於功能的整合。

Digital Subscriber Line is a type of data communication technology that enable user can faster transmit a large of high-speed date over existing public switch telephone network, and does not need to change current system architecture. The earliest design concept was proposed in 1987 by Bellcore. People found it is very useful and suitable to be a new technology for high speed data transmit on the public switch telephone network after 10 years. Now is 20 years later, it is the one of major broadband access technology in the worldwide.
Now, at present, everybody enjoy the broadband network technology benefits, and use it as normal, but however, the competition still on going. The total internal access number keep growing, the coverage rate also. From the technology point of view, the new technologies keep finding the new chance into this marketing, such as wireless broadband access, fiber to home. According to the server point of view, the broadband access service provider supply the variable data combine with voice and date is one of the manufactory requirement. By the look of policy, the broadband access coverage rate is become one of the key indicator of the country competitiveness, and governments contact promoting to raise the budge in the investment of public policy.
The major research is to study the current industry situation, industrial ecological system, and industrial trend of xDSL semiconductor chipset solution providers. Try to find out the reason and provide the comments following the data analysis, and go through face-to-face interview. Observe the whole xDSL industry has been changed from growing up to maturity. There are two major future trends in the xDSL industry; vendors will more concentrate on the professional service in the parts of vertical integration, and more focus on function integration.
