This research aims to investigate the influence of online social support on students’ learning motivation, resilience, and mental health in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, considering different background variables such as gender and age group. Additionally, the research aims to explore the interrelationships between students’ learning motivation, psychological resilience, and mental health in relation to online social support.
A questionnaire survey was chosen as the primary research method, targeting students from senior high schools, vocational high schools and universities in the northern and central regions of Taiwan. The study collected a total of 368 online questionnaires, and after careful screening, 363 valid questionnaires were used for the final analysis. The research employed the “Online Social Support Scale”, “Online Course Learning Motivation Scale”, “Resilience Scale” and “Mental Health Scale” as the research tools. Data was processed and analyzed using SPSS, and various statistical analyses were performed to examine different variables.
The results of the research are as follows:
1.Online social support during the COVID-19 pandemic, information support is the most cognitively oriented, and online video is being sought out for learning and help primarily through the medium of smartphones and laptops.
2.During the pandemic of COVID-19, online social support significantly influences students’ learning motivation.
3.During the pandemic of COVID-19, online social support significantly influences students’ resilience.
4.During the pandemic of COVID-19, online social support significantly influences students’ mental health.
5.During the pandemic of COVID-19, there are no significant differences in online social support, learning motivation, resilience, and mental health among students with different background variables (gender and age group).
6.During the pandemic of COVID-19, a meaningful correlation exists between online social support and students’ learning motivation, resilience, and mental health.
Finally, based on the findings of the study, the researcher makes relevant recommendations on the effects of online social support on students’ motivation, resilience and mental health during the pandemic of COVID-19.
