In this paper, we used a single accelerometer to capture user's activity signal and to distinguish the posture of user immediately. There are two main discrimination functions as follow. The first one is gait detection, including step count and gait types classification. There are three types of gait which are going upstairs, going downstairs, and walk. The second function is body build-up activity detection, containing push-up and sit-up. In addition, we also detected the transition from stand to sit of a user and the other way round. We put the propose device at multiple positions of body and to evaluate the performance of each position. The purpose of this paper is to develop a simple, lightweight, and easy-wearing device with multiple functions to monitor the physical activity of user. The detected results were transmitted to the ios mobile phone for display. In this paper, we used a single 3-axis accelerometer to identify user's posture directly based on diagnosing the waveform feature of acceleration data. We placed the proposed device on the user's body at four positions (neckline, back neckline, chest, and waist) respectively and to discuss the performance of each part.
