In this thesis, we explore key issues affecting the resilience of the electronic components supply chain, particularly focusing on the role of distributors and the bullwhip effect. Through a detailed analysis of Texas Instruments' (TI) 2019 strategic channel adjustment, we uncover the significant impact of distributors on enhancing supply chain flexibility and resilience. The study uses the Resource-Based View (RBV) and Dynamic Capabilities Theory as frameworks, highlighting the importance of leveraging core resources and adapting to market changes to maintain a competitive edge.
Our findings demonstrate that distributors play a crucial role in ensuring supply chain agility, especially by facilitating information sharing and technical support. The research suggests that a hybrid model combining direct sales with distributor services can offer the best of both worlds—direct engagement with key customers while expanding market reach through distributors like Arrow for smaller clients. This approach allows for better adaptation to market shifts and technological advancements.
The conclusion emphasizes that incorporating distributors in the supply chain strategy offers additional flexibility and choices, enabling companies to better navigate the fast-evolving market landscape. This strategic mix can lead to sustainable supply chain development and a stronger competitive position.
