The effects of Mobile Assisted Language Learning (MALL) strategy using LINE on college students’ basic Japanese Learning with E-book is investigated in the study. There were 25 subjects participated and divided into two groups, with 11 in control group and 14 in experimental group. They were non-Japanese major recruited from Xitun District, Taichung City. Both groups read the same Japanese learning E-book, and the experimental group used LINE to assist learning in addition. The experimentation lasted for two weeks, followed by questionnaire survey and Japanese language tests to investigate the learners' motivation, attitude and test outcomes. The results showed that (1) the +LINE experimental group students scored significantly higher than the control group in Vocabulary and Grammar, one sub-test of the Japanese language test, and (2) the control group, reading the E-book only, showed significant improvement in sub-test Reading from pretest to post test, indicating the effectiveness of the E-book improving Reading of Japanese learning. The qualitative analysis from questionnaire survey showed that advantages of using LINE to assist language learning: Convenient, instant, close to daily lives, and easy to use as well as the stickers in LINE application. It is suggested that more LINE usage is applied to assist in learning strategies.
