In this digital age, consumers search for knowledge, consume and shop, and even share their lives on the Internet. From the above, we can see that the lives of modern people are inseparable from the Internet. For companies, if they want to keep up with the times and improve business performance, digital transformation is necessary. However, according to relevant surveys, the success rate of digital transformation is low, and most leaders in Taiwan regard digital transformation as a top priority for enterprises, but they still lack digital transformation strategies. Therefore, unpacking the critical success factors of digital transformation can help the leaders avoid digital transformation failure.
This research uses in-depth interviews to understand the critical success factors of digital transformation in four manufacturing industry companies. The choice of companies is based on research gaps, including the size of the company and the background of the leaders. The study found that: (1) The critical success factors of digital transformation for large and small enterprises are the same, but due to the number of resources, the digital transformation strategies used by enterprises are different. (2) Whether the leader has an information technology background is not the most important thing. The important thing is that the leader needs to have digital capabilities and strategic management knowledge in order to combine technology and business to find new business opportunities more effectively. Also, the industry pays more attention to leaders’ determination, logical thinking, unique vision, correct judgment, and efficient execution in promoting digital transformation. (3) The critical success factors of digital transformation are prioritized, some are critical, and some have relatively room for adjustment.
Finally, based on the analysis results, this research hopes to provide a reference basis for companies in the manufacturing industry to implement digital transformation planning and strategy formulation.
