( 1 ) The board:
Transformation is not just the change in appearance, but also the consideration of factors such as space, time, and circumstance to strengthen the purpose of transformation and the psychological level. In today’s product design, in order to make transformable products satisfy the users’ need, the designers usually introduce the transformable features to make them easy to carry and multifunctional simultaneously.
Most of the users have the stereotype in the usage of the products. If we get rid of the general form changing, there will be a different scenario for the users. The form changing process gives the users visual feeling and the intensity of it will be different depend on the various structures. Take Swiss knife for example, if we can introduce other structure change instead of the original one, it will give the users disparate visual experience and surprise.
The design thesis is depending on the skateboard and the purpose of it is to make a reference in design process. Firstly, discuss the transformation and structures of biology, architecture, and product. Then, generalize the transforming methods from the literatures; understand the skateboard transformation purpose and process through case study.
In the case study, I referenced the several transforming products and generalize their transforming methods, and then found the structures which are not have been used. In the first stage, the use of origami structure was applied on the skateboard. Through the model making, the stability of the skateboard structure and the smoothness of gliding can be tested directly. Moreover, it helped to acquire better structural stability before the final stage.
The goal of the design thesis is to introduce the transforming structure in the skateboards which are different from the cases. There are two transforming skateboards based on it:
(1)“The board” is easy to transform and carry because it is different from the general skateboard form changing.
(2)“Coexist” has a variety of transformation in the same time and it enables the users to stretch Coexist anytime by their purpose.
