In recent years, the number of graduates has increased every year. As the job market becomes more competitive, the internship experience is becoming an important tool for employment. This study summarizes four dimensions (internship credits, internship duration, compensation satisfaction and mentor satisfaction) of the internship program. We examine the effects of different dimensions on internship effectiveness (job-related skills, career exploration and intention to stay).
In this study, the sample consists of 306 students with internship experience. The results indicate that part-time internships have an impact on the intention to stay in the industry. Compensation satisfaction will affect interns’ career exploration, while they will be clear about future career choices. We also found that mentor satisfaction help interns to have a positive outlook for career exploration, and then enhance their intention to stay. These findings can help create more efficient internships and improve its effectiveness.
