With the global epidemic caused by the new coronavirus (COVID-19) in 2020, the virus continues to mutate. In the context of international publicity screening, vaccinations, and maintaining social safety distance of human-to-human contact is suggested to be reduced. In addition to the emotional connection with people, one of the most important things in people’s daily behavior and activities is to maintain basic life needs, i.e., buying food and daily necessities. The transaction of money facilitates direct and indirect contact among people. In such an epidemic background, credit card online payment, online shopping, contactless delivery services, and electronic payment have all become very important. This is because new consumption modes that reduce contact and are safer. Therefore, this study takes electronic payment applications as the research theme, and uses an experimental method to explore the impact of electronic payment interface information presentation and password types on users' experience, so as to optimize the user interface design and enhance user experience. By so doing will also increase the people’s willingness to adopt electronic payments.
This research experiment is divided into two phases: (1) The pilot experiment is aimed at exploring the top three general electronic payment applications in Taiwan, and uses the existing electronic payment framework to conduct experimental operations. Non-participatory observations and interview analysis were also adopted to help investigate the advantages and disadvantages of electronic payment interface and user experience. (2) The design of the confirmatory experiment sample is based on the results from the pilot experiment, with 2 types of passwords (i.e., before completion of the operation/before execution and before completion of the operation) x 3 types of information presentation (i.e., left and right sliding/floating/rolling). A total of 6 types of verification experiments were used for two-factor analysis of variance (ANOVA). The verification experiment recruited 60 participants, and it was carried out as a between-subject experiment. Both the task completion time and and users’ subjective evaluations were collected for further analysis.
The results of verification experiment are as follows: (1) More levels of password type design will increase the user's operation time, so the one-time "before the operation" password type has a higher task performance; (2) For information presentation, use the scrolling type of interface presentation can present more functional options on the same screen, and reduce the user's experience of screen switching, thereby reducing the functional operating levels; (3) Reducing the difference in icons and words among different electronic payments could effectively increase the learning cost of users in cross-payment applications; (4) The function options frequently used in electronic payment should be displayed on the homepage of the information display, which can reduce the time spent on interface conversion and operation level; (5) The password verification of biometric technology type can more effectively improve users’ task operation efficiency and security.
