探討台灣高科技產業二十餘年來的發展過程,可以發現除了半導體產業外, TFT-LCD(薄膜電晶體液晶顯示器)產業對於整體台灣經濟發展的推升助力及維持我國於東亞科技產業戰略優勢的重要地位。本論文是藉由探討日本企業TFT-LCD技術移轉台灣的背景因素,延伸至目前台灣TFT-LCD產業的發展現況來探討台灣TFT-LCD產業所有的競爭優勢與面臨的競爭壓力,以及產業在高度成長與高額投資的同時必須考量的風險與廠商應有的作為。
台灣在TFT-LCD產業的發展上,最主要的競爭對手是日本及韓國。因此在積極擴產及投資次世代生產線之餘應朝研發新技術如低溫多晶矽TFT-LCD、超高解析度、廣視角等產品等,以降低下一波景氣衰退期的殺傷力。就台灣廠商而言,未來最直接的競爭者將是擅於採低價競爭策略的韓國廠商。
本研究應用Michael Porter所提出五力分析與產業競爭力鑽石模型為理論架構, 分析台灣TFT-LCD廠商的競爭優劣勢以及台灣TFT-LCD產業在面臨日韓強大競爭壓力下的競爭優勢與條件。
Looking into the development of the high-tech industry in Taiwan over the past two decades, we can see that the TFT-LCD industry has played an important role in enhancing the overall Taiwanese economical competitiveness and growth. In fact, it is also sustaining Taiwan a strategic position of East Asia Technology Industry in additional to existing Semiconductor Industry.
This thesis refers to Michael Porter (1985) “Competitive forces” and (1990) “Diamond Model of The Competitive Advantages of Nations” theories to investigate the background of Japanese TFT-LCD manufacturers’ technologies have been transferred to Taiwan, and the role the Taiwanese TFT-LCD manufacturers play in worldwide TFT-LCD industry growth, and according to current Taiwanese TFT-LCD industry development status for studying its competitiveness, and potential risks. At the meantime, studying the reactions of the industry players in Taiwan to against the higher growth, higher value and higher risk TFT-LCD industry.
In the past of Taiwanese TFT-LCD industry, the major competitors were Japan and Korea, In the future, that will be Korea only since the pricing war. In addition to the investment exercise of next generation fabs, the Taiwanese TFT-LCD manufacturers intend to develop new technologies ex.LTPS TFT-LCD, higher resolution, faster response time and wider viewing angle products in order to provide themselves with opportunities for continuous growth.
