From 2019 to 2022, the globalized COVID-19 epidemic has had a major impact on the economic development of various countries. Uncertainty surrounding the current recession is also dampening corporate activity and profitability, indicators of global economic growth. In particular, the phenomenon of high employment growth and low productivity growth in the past has intensified. In the current global economic downturn and austerity challenges, it is very important for enterprises to effectively utilize human resources, reduce management costs, and improve production efficiency. This study aims to discuss three key investment factors that affect a firm's labor productivity. This study uses theoretical literature discussion and rational logic derivation to establish a research model of human resource planning, high-performance work practices, and human resource slack investments on firm’s labor productivity and proposes three research propositions. Research proposition 1: Investments in human resource planning will positively affect the labor productivity. Research Proposition 2: Investments in high-performance work practices will positively affect the labor productivity. Research Proposition 3: Investments in human resource slack will positively affect the labor productivity. The findings of this study point out that firms can improve labor productivity by strengthening investments in human resource planning, high-performance work practices, and human resource slack.
