At the end of the 19th - beginning of the 20th century, the industrial revolution began on the territory of Russia. At that time, a large number of large industrial complexes were built. Thus, in 1987, in an article in the journal "Architecture of the USSR", the author mentioned that the cities of Russia "experience an acute shortage of industrial territories." Therefore, in the late 90s, the withdrawal of industrial territories from large cities began.
Today, the conservation of natural resources is an integral part of a developed society, it allows you to save time, money and resources, as well as preserve the history of cities. Therefore, it would be quite wasteful to destroy those large industrial areas with their ready infrastructure, buildings and advantageous locations. The term "sustainability" began to appear in the Russian society less than 15 years ago, but in Europe they this trend in architecture in the 1980s. And now those countries have quite a lot of experience in introducing new life into old buildings. In my thesis, I consider the experience of European countries in the revitalization of industrial buildings and identify the basic principles that make revitalization successful by analyzing existing successful and less successful projects, articles and other scientific research.
