As one of the largest Muslim population country, Indonesia had been colonized by the Dutch for over three centuries and is considered the longest period of colonization throughout the history of Indonesia. Although the main purpose of the colonization was to exploit the resources of Indonesia, it is interesting to know how Christianity was introduced to Indonesia in the form of religious building and seen from the perspectives of architecture. The objectives of this research are to understand the typology of Christian churches built in Surabaya, the city of East Java, Indonesia, during the era of Dutch colonization, to seek the correlation between each case studies, as well as the correlation with the churches in the Netherlands. It is shown that first, Protestant church is different with the Catholic Church. Second, there are correlations between the churches in Indonesia, represented by Surabaya city, with the churches in the Netherlands, and third, it is found that each case studies in Surabaya develop in the same typology. It is sincerely hoped that this research can provide an understanding of the churches built in Surabaya during the Dutch colonization era and can be used either for practical or research use in the future.
