The study analyzes the efficiency of banking operations in Taiwan, Singapore, Hong Kong, and China between 2004 and 2006. It based on Fried, Lovell, Schmidt and Yaisawarng (2002) three-stage data envelopment analysis. There are many different environmental conditions between the banks, and cross-country comparison makes the difference more apparent. Therefore, we selected the key environmental variables to be adjusted. In our analysis of the second stage SFA, it proved that these environmental variables do affect the efficiency of banks. When we distinguish the operating environment and statistical interference, then adjust the input items, can be found the difference between the first stage DEA results and the third stage DEA results. The evidence shows that the three-stage application of data envelopment analysis is essential, and the value after adjusted can truly reflect the bank's operational efficiency.
