In this study, catalyst activity and stability of ketonization of propanoic acid (PA)reaction to diethyl ketone (DEK) water and carbon dioxide by comparing the difference valance ,crystal size and loading on support of manganese oxide were investigated. Comparing the different manganese oxide such as MnO2 , Mn2O3 , Mn3O4 , MnO and commercial Mn(OH)4-La2O3-SiO2 reaction, MnO exhibit excellent activity but active decay seriously after reaction. XRD,BET result show MnO crystal size change, pore also be destroyed significantly but still was more importantly the stable phase under the reaction conditions The different crystal size of MnO show the significant different reaction performance.
Per gram conversion activity at 300 degree, small crystal size of MnO show higher active, however per Area conversion activity at 300 degree, large crystal size of MnO show higher active. Activity and crystal size still changed after reaction tests. The dissolution of MnO by PA was considered as the main reason. Loading MnO on support was considered as decreasing the PA etch indicate the stability would be enhance. The reaction of MnO disperse on CeO2, SiO2, Al2O3 and TiO2 by precipitation method were investigated. The solubility test show the support effect was able to decrease MnO dissolve. MnO- Al2O3 exhibit higher activity.
