In the generation of global village, the occurrence of one incident in one nation results in relating effects to other nations. In comparison with the past decades, the connections between nations and nations have been inseparably close. The 2008 financial crisis had caused low employment rates and downturn in economy around the world. Thus, this research aims to study the relation between the trend of global economic growth and the frequency of the keyword “financial crisis” appearing in the business magazine The Economist by comparing the economic growth map which is provided by the International Monetary Foundation (IMF) with the keywords in the magazine. A working corpus (11,463,349 running words) of this magazine (2007- 2009) has been constructed to compare the world gross domestic product rate with the relevant keywords used in this magazine. The results indicate that the trend of the global economic growth is inversely proportional to the frequency rates of the related keywords such as “FINANCIAL CRISIS” and “ECONOMIC CRISIS.” Keywords in the magazine changed from centering on politics-related issues, such as “POLITICAL” and “MINISTER”, to economic topics such as “PRICES,” “FINANICAL” and “BANKS.” It also shows that the outlook of the global economic development had a great influence because the related keywords, such as LOOMING and SUFFERED, appeared in 2008 when economic crisis broke out. Thus, the current findings intend to serve as a pedagogical guideline in the ESP or a pilot study aiming to search for a practical and efficient strategy in order to solve the difficult situation in economy, and hopefully to serve as a guide study for financial specialists and government officials to refer to in order to take actions on stabilizing the global situations in both economic and political aspects.
