  • 現代社會對資訊化的需求越來越高,激發了資訊科技的迅速發展,也帶動了個人電腦設備的普及。個人電腦作業系統軟體開發商也不斷的推出功能更強大、操作介面更人性化的新產品,以提供更好的使用者體驗。對企業而言,採用新的電腦作業系統不僅可提升工作效率與生產力,更是維持企業競爭力的重要關鍵之一,然而企業同時也需面對電腦作業系統世代交替所伴隨而來的系統升級問題。
    個案公司資訊部門為因應 Microsoft Windows XP 作業系統產品的生命週期終止,並解決新舊版本 Microsoft Office 軟體的相容性問題,決定進行公司個人電腦作業系統暨文書軟體升版專案,但因預算、時間、人力等資源之限制以及跨部門合作的困難,致使現有軟體與新版作業系統的相容性問題難以解決,專案因此陷入了困境,為了突破困境使專案得以順利進行,個案公司資訊長採納了專案經理建議的虛擬桌面基礎架構解決方案。此一管理決策使得專案得以順利完成,不僅實現了專案目標,同時也創新了 IT 基礎架構,開創未來發展更多應用的可能性,實現資訊部門的價值。
    本論文以哈佛個案研究的方式撰寫,包含個案本文及個案教學指引兩部份。學生可由本個案學習企業在進行電腦作業系統升版專案時,可能面臨的相關風險與阻礙,並從中學習專案風險管理、虛擬桌面基礎架構、管理決策、左右開弓策略四項主題。


    The needs of information technology in modern society are getting huger. It stimulates information technology growth rapidly and also leads personal computer used widely. Meanwhile, in order to provide better user experience, the manufacturers of personal computer operating system keep developing new products with more powerful functions and friendly user interface. For enterprises, applying new computer operating system not only improves efficiency and productivity but also is an important key to stay competitive. However, at the same time, enterprises have to face the system upgrade issue that aroused from the version upgrade of operating systems.
    Facing the termination of Microsoft Windows XP product life cycle and resolving the compatibility issue between old and new versions of Microsoft Office, the IT department of this corporation decided to conduct the project of software upgrade of personal computer operating system and Microsoft Office. But due to the constraint of budget, schedule, and manpower and the difficulty of cross-departmental collaboration, it is hard to resolve the compatibility issues between existing applications and new version of operating system. Hence the project fallen into a predicament. To overcome the predicament and keep the project going on, the corporation’s CIO agreed to adopt the virtual desktop infrastructure solution proposed by the project manager. This managerial decision helped the project not only achieve project objectives but also innovate IT infrastructure. It also created the possibility of developing more applications in the future and realized the value of IT department.
    This thesis adopts the Harvard case study method and contains two parts: the case itself and teaching instruction. From this case, students can learn how to deal with the possibly occurred risks and difficulties while enterprises execute computer operating system upgrade project. The teaching topics in this case include four topics: project risk management, virtual desktop infrastructure, management decision making and ambidexterity.
