This study examines the variation in the performance of Taiwanese information and electronic companies investing in the mainland China. The research theory is based on Industrial Organization (IO), Resource-based View (RBV) and institutional theory, and the empirical method is hierarchical linear modeling (HLM). The empirical sample period covers Taiwan information and electronic manufacturers from 2012 to 2016. According to the ROS performance index, the empirical results of the variation of the firm's business performance found that the firm's effect on the vendor's performance variation explained the largest, about 5.81%; second, the industrial effect was about 3.53%; third, the regional effect was about 2.54%; finally, the parent company's performance was about 2.28%. This study confirms that the differences in the investment performance of Taiwan’s information and electronic operators in the mainland China are still due to differences in vendor resource endowments and strategic choices; the industrial and regional effects have a certain degree of explanation for the variation in the company’s operating performance, and therefore the point of the industrial economics theory and institutional school view could also be established.
