文化活動參與及文化設施對都市永續的影響和重要性不曾是規劃者的首要考量，而文化對永續的貢獻也多被社會大眾過度低估。
於1972 年落成的國父紀念館至今已服務社會大眾逾四十年，在持續的環境演變和社會變遷下，國父紀念館未必能及時跟上時代的腳步，充分滿足社會大眾的需求。
本論文以國父紀念館為例，探討文化設施在台北都市環境中的永續意涵，並接續國父紀念館已提出的地下連通空間構想，以永續中的環境、經濟、社會與文化等角度觀察，輔以問卷調查與分析作為參考依據，進而提出重塑館內空間的改善方式以及兩種地下連通空間規劃方案。研究成果除了可作為後續規劃者與決策者的參考之外，更對文化設施在都市環境中的永續性提出了實驗討論。

Both the importance and influence which are delivered by cultural activities and facilities in urban sustainability have been ignored by planners for long, and similarly, such contribution has been underestimated by public unconsciously.
This thesis takes National Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall as an example to research into the meaning of sustainability contributed by a cultural facility in Taipei milieu. By continuing the underground extension suggested by the administrator of National Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall, this thesis further proposed two different options to revitalize this cultural facility, which has been operated for more than forty years since its establishment in 1972. On the basis of the analyzation which focuses on sustainable factors, i.e. environment, economic, social, and most importantly, culture, as well as a questionnaire survey, two scenarios are put forward to establish a platform for experimental discussion.
The result could serve as a reference for subsequent planners and decision makers, and the analyzing result in this thesis could also help them to achieve an optimized balance in the complexity of urban sustainability.
