Guided learning and assessment are two primitive and important learning activities. Today, topic-oriented learning and assessment become more and more important.
Navigation services use a course map, encoded in XML, to model the causal relationships among course units. By exploring the course map, information about the studying precedence lists and the best learning path can be found, helping learners cope with the navigation pitfalls of hypermedia systems and avoid aimlessly surfing in hyperspace, to improve learning performance.
On line exam services consist of ‘creating exam rule’ and ‘taking exam’ services. The ‘creating exam rule’ service gives the teacher a flexible way to create a teacher-made test by specifying the difficulty and topics of an exam paper. The ‘taking exam’ service dynamically creates an exam paper and validates it by evaluating the matching degree between the exam paper and the given exam rule, so that each dynamically created exam paper meets the specified rules and has a consistent pass-fail standard. The on-line exam services enable each student to take the on-line exam repeatedly.
The navigation services and on-line examination services can be easily integrated into e-learning systems, so the e-learning systems can provide agility learning for a specific topic. Besides, e-learning systems become more flexible and maintainable, and the reusability is also improved.
