The house is a shelter for people to unwind after doing various activities and also as a means of interaction between fellow residents or even the environment. As a place for people to unwind, the house should be able to meet these human needs, so that when they start their activities again, they are back in energy and full of energy. Meanwhile, as a means of interaction, the house must also be able to present the ideal quality of space for humans to interact or be comfortable physically and mentally. Overall the house must be able to make users 'feel at home' inside. Human needs for a comfortable, safe, healthy and aesthetic shade are inevitable.
The growing number of people in cities, especially in Surabaya, has forced many young families with middle income to choose to live in the suburbs. Limited funds encourage the optimization of every inch of land, the function of each space, and the use of materials. With a hostile climate and pollution that pollutes, more effort is needed to obtain healthy, aesthetic, and affordable housing.
Therefore, the discussion in this study is how the science of architecture helps realize affordable housing construction and a more unique aesthetic design by developing creative Kiyakabin architectural designs. The data collection technique was carried out with the purpose of sampling with a qualitative description method through the distribution of questionnaire surveys to residents of the lower-middle-class economy of Surabaya, with these methods expected to be able to uncover and be a positive solution about affordable housing needs with a more unique design.
