Taiwan is one of the countries in Asia that is popular among students who want to study abroad. In the past few years, there has been a significant increase in the number of Indonesian sojourners studying in Taiwan from 2,293 students in the 2008/2009 period to 11,812 in the 2018/2019 period. As a student who wanders far from their home countries, every foreign student may face a culture shock in a new environment due to cultural differences from the country of origin. Indonesian students in Taiwan may experience culture shock which can affect their academic and daily activities. This study aims to examine the relationship between culture shock and the effectiveness of learning with CQ as a moderator for culture shock in psychological and sociocultural adaptations among Indonesian students in Taiwan.

This study uses a quantitative descriptive approach that uses questionnaire-based surveys to obtain data. Samples data is collected from Indonesian International and overseas students who pursue Bachelor, Master and PhD education at various universities in Taiwan. Research findings indicate that culture shock has significant positive correlation with psychological adaptation but negative correlation with sociocultural adaptation. In addition, the results show that psychological and sociocultural adaptations have a significant positive correlation with the learning effectiveness of Indonesian students. Furthermore, the moderate results show that CQ moderates the relationship by maximized the impact of culture shock for those students who have high CQ on psychological and sociocultural adaptation.
