In a dynamic competitive environment, the supply chain is a kind of heterogeneous cooperation which is dynamic, complex, and resource-constrained. In particular, supply chain involves interconnected processes and linking physical-cyber system, and supply chain operation is severely affected when any part of an operation is interrupted. The researches of using Information Technology (IT) in supply chain control is gradually being valued, because IT can help supply chain members participate in such control, and control supply chain events or risks possibly. The purpose of this study is to understand how supply chain organizations develop IT-enabled supply chain control capability.
The study focused on how to enact the development of IT-enabled supply chain control capability. Therefore, theories of technology affordance and enactment were used as the theoretical lens for developing supply chain control capability, and three case studies were employed to explore the use of IT to drive the development of IT-enabled supply chain control capability. We adopted grounded theory analysis to induct and summed up an affordance-enactment theory model from the three cases. The main contribution of this study is to strengthen the effect of enacting IT affordance on supply chain control capability. IT affordance is an important capability for digital supply chains, because it can change the way of IT usage and achieve effective resource deployment. Our results can be a consideration of guiding IT-enabled development for organizations or supply chain alliances whom are interested in improving supply chain control. It can also be used as a reference for future research on applying IT in practice and development of collective organizational capability.
