  • Selecting the strategy of foreign market entry is alongside with the decision of which
market to enter a key decision for any international company. Emerging technologies
characterized by their radical novelty, fast growth, coherence, prominent impact, and
uncertainty and ambiguity have created an environment for small, rapidly growing, and
technology-driven emerging high-tech firms, which take the advantage of their ability to
innovate. This thesis examines Slovak emerging tech firms in a cross-case study analysis to
improve their internationalization process when entering the Taiwan market. The aim is to
develop a framework of the optimal propositions for FDI strategies and foreign entry mode
choices. The literature review suggested that entry motives, FDI strategies, entry mode
choice, and environment are all closely linked. The entry motive (why) is directly linked to
the FDI strategy (what) and more indirectly linked to the entry mode choice (how); namely, I
contend that the relationship between the entry motive and the entry mode choice is partially
mediated by the FDI strategy. Moreover, the FDI strategy is directly linked to the entry mode
choice. Each decision further interferes with the environmental context and firm-level
resources (when). The thesis designs seven propositions for Slovak emerging tech firms to
enter the Taiwan market, and lastly the analysis provides applications of the propositions to
develop a comprehensive framework to suggest the Slovak emerging tech firms the FDI
strategy, entry mode, and tactics of realizing the benefits of foreign entry in terms of entry
motives for the optimal entry the Taiwan market.
