The rise of the sharing economy has created tremendous job opportunities for On-Demand workers, whose work is based on payment on short-term contracts with no obligation for continued employment. Given the short-term and non-obligated nature of employment, it is likely that those On-Demand workers have very low organization commitment, which could be problematic as organization commitment serves a vital role in employee performance and retention. This research sets to explore the role of information system, in the form of on-demand app such as Uber, as a nexus between the on-demand business and its workers, and investigate how information system affects on-demand workers’ perceptions of the organization, which subsequently contribute to commitment. Specifically, we propose that system quality and information quality as two antecedents to on-demand workers’ perceived organizational support and perceived fairness, which in turn facilitate commitment. The test of the proposed model is carried out quantitatively with a structured questionnaire. The 239 respondents of this research are Uber driver who works in Surabaya, Indonesia. The results suggest that information quality and system quality positively related to perceived organizational support (POS). Furthermore, information quality is not related to perceived fairness. However, system quality has no effect on perceived fairness. Although these results are not entirely supported, both POS and perceived fairness have a positive effect on affective commitment.
