The web-based construction project management systems (WBPMS) have been widely used for information exchange in the Architectural, Engineering, and Construction industry recently. This paper explores key successful factors of WBPMS through five steps. First, a case study is analyzed to discuss its failure and potential factors during the project duration. Second, some other key factors affecting the application of WBPMS are also discussed by using literature reviews. In addition, a manipulation model of WBPMS and its relevant questionnaire are established based on the case study and literature reviews. Furthermore, some statistical methods are applied to analyze the questionnaire to test the model. The result reveals that there are five key successful factors that might affect the operation of WBPMS: the ability of system development and design, the structure of project organization, information quality, the efficiency of information exchange, as well as the incentive for users. These findings are supposed to be better and more plentiful than those of past studies.
