In the globalization society, global student mobility has been a general trend. With the international students’ participation thriving in the class and campus activities, the government is highly interested in where they will go after graduation, and it is also critical to the students’ future career. More international students choose to stay in Taiwan after graduation will not only enable corporations to acquire more global talent, but also bring Taiwan a more diverse society.
This paper focused on the study of the relativity and the level of influence between countries’ level of development, intrinsic motivation to study in Taiwan, cross-cultural adjustment, and intention to stay in Taiwan. This paper use Push and Pull Theory and Theory of Reasoned Action as the research framework, and add cross-cultural adjustment as moderator variables to analyze the reasons why international students study in Taiwan and their willingness to stay or work in Taiwan after graduation. The questionnaires were mainly distributed by researchers as hard copy, supplemented by online ones, and 434 effective questionnaires were collected. The hypotheses of the research were verified by regression analysis.
The empirical results show that: (1) Students from developing countries have a higher willingness to stay in Taiwan than students from developed countries. (2) Students from developing countries have higher intrinsic motivation to study in Taiwan than students from developed countries. (3) Intrinsic motivation to study in Taiwan has a positive influence on the intention to stay in Taiwan. This research can be the base of further research, and also can be a reference for the government to plan or implement strategies to reserve more global talent.
