Manufacturing product exhibits several quality characteristics. Quality control and inspection within manufacturing process are crucial to verify product conformance to requirements. The quality history of the product may change; therefore, an inspection technique that can accommodate the changes in product quality becomes increasingly indispensable. In addition, maintenance of manufacturing equipment is substantial to preserve production performance. The equipment may age and deteriorate with time and production, thus affecting product quality. Hence, maintenance policy for equipment define under certain circumstance based on total cost incurs. Well-maintained equipment ensures the high-quality products. The role and advantage of inspection and maintenance were individually well addressed in literatures. The proceeding observations, both on them, suggest realizing their relationship, as such a way as to establish better quality assurance and the performance of a production system. However, the link between these two aspects has not been sufficiently investigated. Hence, this thesis attempts to firstly propose the inspection plan for quality product and maintenance policy for equipment, independently. Moreover, a broad framework of interaction between inspection and maintenance is proposed to offer comprehensive managerial thinking in equipment management. While two kinds of connections are suggested: first, from the maintenance side and second, from the quality side, which provide useful initiation of possible joint optimization model for future research.
