從1930年代柯布(Le Corbusier)發展「無限成長美術館」的構想以來，擴建的需求已成為美術館建築類型非常關鍵的設計議題。美術館擴建的設計議題除了一般建築物擴建所必須面對的新舊建築之間在外部形式上如何搭配之外，同時還涉及到內部參觀動線與展覽空間的重新整合，以及塑造新面貌的問題。
本研究以設計美術館著稱的義大利建築師皮亞諾(Renzo Piano)的五件美術館擴建作品作為研究案例，針對區位，擴建需求，新舊建築之間的形式策略，入口意象，參觀動線，展覽空間以及新面貌的形塑等議題進行分析，藉此探討皮亞諾在美術館擴建的設計思維以提供進一步思考美術館擴建設計的可能性。

Since Le Corbusier developed the conception of unlimited growth museum in the 1930s, the demand for building extansions has become one of the critical design issues for art museums. Besides the relation between external form of the old building and that of the new one that all extensions must face in general, the art museum extension also involves the re-integration of visit circulation, the exhibition space, as well as how to shape the new architectural image.
In this study, five works of the Italian architect Renzo Piano famous for art museum design will be taken as examples. By analyzing their location, expansion need, strategy of external form, entrance image, visit circulation, exhibition rooms and the new image of the museum after the expansion, we try to probe Renzo Piano’s design thinking in art museum extension works in order to explore further the possibility of design strategies for art museum extension.
