隨著科技的發展,諸多生活用品開始自動化,本研究主要以「電動牙刷」技術出發,針對A61C 17/16(牙科、口腔或牙齒衛生之動力驅動的清潔或磨光裝置)進行產業專利技術分析,專利檢索範圍涵蓋全球五大專利局及WIPO,並以全球五大專利權人,同時亦是全球五大電動牙刷廠商作為主要研究目標,對整體產業及個別公司在美國專利局之申請案進行定性及定量之技術功效分析,並探討技術演變歷程、子系統技術與其布局情形;接著以專利指標進行專利佈局強度與技術全面度計算,比較競爭公司之間的差異,再探討各公司在不同技術類別所具有之相對優勢及研發投入程度;最後綜合比較競爭公司之總強度排名,並給予未來研發建議以及發展戰略之建議。
本研究結果獲得以下結論:
1.電動牙刷技術早期幾乎已經歷一完整之生命週期,申請量具有三波高峰,分別為2002年、2011年與2016年。目前,電動牙刷技術已進入技術成熟期,並遇上技術瓶頸,相異申請人數減少且新發明申請件數亦呈現下降之趨勢,但目前技術仍有一定之發明申請量,不至於完全缺乏創新。
2.專利技術功效全面度排名依序為:BRAUN、P&G、COLGATE、PHILIPS、GILLETTE。
3.專利布局指標強度排名依序為:COLGATE、PHILIPS、BRAUN、GILLETTE、P&G。
4.總強度排名依序為:COLGATE、BRAUN、PHILIPS、GILLETTE、P&G。
5.六項子系統相對優勢如下:刷毛技術為P&G,刷頭技術為GILLETTE,手柄技術為COLGATE,驅動裝置GILLETTE稍微高於其他競爭公司,傳感器為GILLETTE,系統整合為BRAUN及PHILIPS。
With the development of science and technology, many househood goods have begun to automate. This research conducted industrial patent analysis on “electric toothbrush”, specifically under patent classification A61C 17/16 (power-driven cleaning or polishing devices for tooth-cleaning or mouth-rinsing). The scope of patent search covered IP5 (the five largest intellectual property offices in the world) and WIPO, and took five major patentees, which are also the top five global electric toothbrush manufacturers as main research objectives. Firstly, this research analyzed overall industry and individual enterprises from qualitative and quantitative perspective as well as presenting the evolution of technology, subsystem technology and patent portfolio strategies in USPTO. Later, the study compared the differences among competitors by calculating patent strength and technical comprehensiveness utilizing patent indicators. The research also touched upon relative advantages in different technology categories. Ultimately, the study compared competing companies’ overall patent evaluation and give suggestions for future R&D strategies.
Results of the study are shown below:
1.Technology of this field has already gone through a complete life cycle in the early stage, and there were three peaks of application in 2002, 2011 and 2016. At present, the technology has hit maturity and encountered technical obstacles. The number of different applicants and applications has decreased. There is a downward trend; however, current technology still receive a certain amount of applications.
2.Ranking of “Patent Technical Comprehensiveness” are as follows: BRAUN, P&G, COLGATE, PHILIPS, GILLETTE.
3.Ranking of “Patent Portfoilo Strength” are as follows: COLGATE, PHILIPS, BRAUN, GILLETTE, P&G
4.Ranking of “Overall Patent Strength” are as follows: COLGATE, BRAUN, PHILIPS, GILLETTE, P&G.
5.The relative advantages of 6 subsystems are as follows: P&G in bristle, GILLETTE in brush head, COLGATE in handle, GILLETTE slightly superior in driven device, GILLETTE in sensors, both BRAUN and PHILIPS in system integration.
