Display is a necessary part of a digital equipment, it takes an important position in electric industry decades. Recently, the technology development of Micro Light Emitting Diode Display is getting more numerous, so hopefully could provide the study of patent portfolios and technology development on Micro-LED Display to Taiwan related industry, researcher or someone useful information.
Patent analysis category including patent trend analysis, technology-function matrix analysis, patent family analysis etc., to acquire applicants’ application trend, patent portfolios of applicants. And could use the information of patent portfolios to understand the applicants’ international market layout to prepare the response action.
This research use USPTO patent database to acquire Micro-LED Display technology related patents to carry out patent analysis, the results were summarized as below: (1) The top 10 applicants of patent application quantity are No.1 LuxVue(US), No.2 X-Celeprint(IE), No.3 Apple(US), No.4 Sony(JP), No.5 Innolux(TW), No.6 Mikro Mesa(from TW), No.7 Samsung Display(KR), No.8 Sharp(JP), No.9 Goertek(CN)、ITRI(TW) and Seoul Semiconductor(KR), total 11 applicants; (2) The percentage classified by main technology fileds of all applications, first is assembly technology took 38%, second is mass transfer technology took 28%, third is Micro LED manufacture technology took 24%, and colorful/display control technology and testing/repair technology both took about 5%; (3) Between the major applicants, LuxVue and X-Celeprint got patent portfolios in all main technology fileds, Apple and Innolux got patent portfolios in wide main technology fileds, Mikro Mesa, Sharp and ITRI got patent portfolios in multiple main technology fileds, but Sony, Samsung Display, Goertek and Seoul Semiconductor got patent portfolios just in few main technology fileds; (4) The major applicants got major mass transfer technology are LuxVue, X-Celeprint, Innolux, Sharp, Goertek and ITRI.
