  • 3D列印,正式名稱為積層製造(Additive Manufacturing,AM),最早出現這種加法製造技術是在1980年代被應用於快速原型(Rapid Prototyping)。近年來在關鍵技術專利陸續到期及自造者熱潮帶動之下,受到廣大的關注與重視。3D列印之數位化製造被喻為第三次工業革命,將逐漸被應用於直接數位製造(Direct Digital Manufacturing),引領人類科技進入數位實體化之時代。目前世界各國積極佈局3D列印的產業發展,投入積層製造的技術研發與強化國際競爭優勢,而台灣運用以往電子產業的硬實力切入3D列印產業,將學術界累積多年的研發能量與業界合作,期盼打造出完整的3D列印產業系統鏈。
    XYZprinting三緯國際立體列印科技股份有限公司是國內率先投入3D列印機研發、設計與製造的公司,以平價及創新策略搶攻3D列印機市場。本個案描述三緯國際創立的過程,從母集團新金寶面臨代工製造的困境與新科技日新月異的情況,以OEM/ODM消費性電子產品、噴墨列印機與雷射列印機等代工經驗與製造技術,找尋週邊能協同應用與設計的新產品,觀察到3D列印市場商機作為發展自有品牌之契機,成立新事業公司推出自有品牌XYZprinting之3D列印產品與服務。隨著公司的業務發展,在機台的研發製造、全球化佈局銷售通路與客戶服務等,整合內外部產業資源與組織管理,強化使用者行為與客戶服務所轉變的組織價值主張,讓自有品牌3D列印機連續三年獲得CES大獎及國際眾多大獎,並在全球消費級3D列印機之市佔率第一。
    本研究以哈佛個案研究之方式進行,可探討企業在新事業發展、資源基礎理論、主導邏輯、商業生態系統等議題。了解企業以新事業發展獲得之效益,新事業成立方式與特色;如何整合企業資源與組織管理,轉化為獨特之能力與競爭優勢;如何透過主導邏輯,來達成組織的核心目標;如何建構商業生態系統,跨界的相互合作,創造互利價值之共進化。


    3D printing, also known as additive manufacturing (AM), has developed since the 1980s. In the beginning, 3D printing technology was only used for rapid prototyping. Now, along with technology development, 3D printing can be used for direct digital manufacturing. In recent years, 3D printing has become a key player for the maker movement by providing regular people the ability to turn their ideas into finished products. The expiration of many 3D printing patents opened the opportunity for many companies to enter this industry. This technology is driving the third industrial revolution. Many countries in the world take 3D printing as an important support of future economic development. Taiwan is most known for its electronics industry, supported by strong manufacturing skills. By having this expertise, Taiwan also has the capability to enter the 3D printing industry and boost the value chain of this industry.
    The case company is XYZprinting, Inc. Founded in 2013, this company develops 3D printers and services in Taiwan. It is dedicated to bringing cost-effective 3D printing to people and businesses around the world. XYZprinting is backed by Kinpo Group, which is the top electronic manufacturer in the world with its OEM and ODM manufacturing. At first, Kinpo Group focused on inkjet and laser printer manufacturing, but in this digital era the sales of inkjet and laser printers are decreasing. To overcome this threat, they decided to expand their new business in the 3D printing industry. This research explores the company strategies to develop their new business and build up its own brand.
    By employing the Harvard Case Study research method, the case can be used to discuss the related issues: new business development, resource-based theory, dominant logic and business ecosystems. The case will also explore: How does the company develop their new business? How does the company utilize their internal and external resources to achieve their goals? What are their considerations in their strategies? How does the company make contributions and influences to 3D printing ecosystems? How do 3D printing companies build strategic partnerships to increase their technology innovation and application?
