Chode River –which also known as Kali Code –is the longest river in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Chode River has become an icon amongst of Yogyakarta’s river. Along the river flows, the settlement has been growing. Alongside of its 6.4 km in length the Chode River’s settlement always becomes wider and wider. Unfortunately the residential which grow do not have good regional concept arrangement.
The newcomers are occupying the Chode riverside area and use that illegal land as their own land to build up home. The direct impact of this illegal settlement is they make new communities of slump area. Beside that problems, in the rainy season at the settlement there will be flooded due to the water that overwhelming in amount over the maximum capacity of Chode River. Because of that the rain water will not be absorbed perfectly.
Yogyakarta’s government has a plan to displace the Chode River’s inhabitant into another area. In the contrary, the inhabitant assumes that they occupied the free land. Moreover they keep defense their ‘free’ land and it belongs to them.
Idea for re-design Chode River comes from those problems. By using the analytical problems, issue, environment condition the redesign project is trying to make an architectural solution for the inhabitant, the government and environment as well.
