  • High-technology firms highly depend on their innovation capabilities through advanced research and development (R&D) activities in order to maximize its business performance. However, at the same time, firms are facing complex competition and market uncertainties. Coopetition, where firms can cooperate and compete at the same time, is therefore considered critical. In this study, the coopetition model involving two high technology firms was formulated and examined its effect on firms’ profit. A case study of original design manufacturer (ODM) firm in Taiwan was conducted. At first, this study built a system dynamics model that consists of sub-models of order, production, R&D, and investment management for each firm. Second, a coopetition model for mutual R&D involvement between two firms was developed by considering both qualitative and quantitative factors. Game theory approach was applied to identify the best strategy for both firms in terms of whether the firms need to cooperate or to compete by analyzing its payoff matrix. Such R&D coopetition model, encompass R&D innovation and profit sharing between firms and were embedded into the system dynamics model. Finally, system dynamics simulation was carried out by considering a set of company strategy decisions. This study contributes to enrich existing literature by successfully combining qualitative and quantitative coopetition factors in the industry. In addition of managerial implications, this study can be used as firms’ reference and simulation tool to design their coopetition strategy.


    企業面臨複雜的競爭環境與需求不確定性,需仰賴於本身的創新能力與協同其他企業共同研發,以進行新產品開發活動,來達到企業的最佳營運績效。。在此競合關係中,企業要如何選擇恰當之競和合策略,是一個十分重要的議題。本研究探討高科技公司的競合策略,觀察不同的策略對於企業利潤的影響。本研究的個案公司是一間位於台灣的原始設計代工廠商。首先,本研究利用系統動態學建立其經營模型,共有四個模組,分別是訂單業務、生產管理、研究開發、以及投資管理模組。再藉由定性和定量因素來制定競合系統模型,並模擬兩家公司之間的發展狀況。本研究運用賽局理論進行兩家公司的競合策略探討,藉由償付矩陣之分析來選擇最佳競和策略。此外,兩間企業的研發創新能力和其利潤分配決策之影響,在系統動態模型實驗中進一步觀察與驗證,最後,本研究透過系統動態模型與實驗設計,幫助個案公司模擬各種情境下之最適競合策略。本研究的貢獻,除了成功地整合在代工產業的定性和定量競合策略因素之外,也利用系統動態學來幫助個案公司設計一套競合策略。
