  • Empowering elderly becomes an issue that must be considered in the era where the population of elder people increases significantly throughout the world. In this thesis, the author takes the empowerment for elderly against home asset maintenance as the research.
Home asset maintenance is one of important issues of elder people since they spent most of their time on the daily activities (ADL) at home. When the asset in elderly home got a problem but had slow response to be handled, it may interrupt the daily activities of the elderly. Furthermore, it may cause the decreasing of quality life of the elderly either directly or indirectly. Hence, the procedure to handle the problematic asset of the elderly cannot be underestimated.
In this study, the focus is to design the framework for home asset maintenance service system. The aim is to ‘provide a possibility environment’ to empower the elderly and urge the stakeholders (elderly itself, family and social community, technician, product provider) involve in the maintenance process to accelerate the whole maintenance procedures. The proposed system in this thesis is a web based with the supporting technology and procedures creation solution approach. The framework will use the supporting technology such as NFC, RFID, QR Code, Email and SMS technology to identify the asset and notify the stakeholders. The framework will also use the case-based reasoning approach and decision tree method as the procedures creation solution to solve the asset problem and deliver the task to the appropriate person.
To show the workflow of home asset maintenance service system, 5 scenarios have been made; general repair by elderly, general repair by social community, technical repair by technician, replacement solution by the product provider, and the procedure to update the catalog of the system. The home asset maintenance service system framework uses web 2.0 technology as the platform of the system. The web-based system is different from the traditional maintenance and repairment system since it is able to provide an opportunity for the stakeholders around the elderly to collaborate and contribute their best efforts on helping the elderly against the asset maintenance process in order to improve the elderly quality of life.
