The relationship and backgrounds of the CEO and the Chairman in a company significantly influence the corporate risk and performance. Within Taiwan's semiconductor industry, it's intriguing to question whether it's better for these two roles to share similar or different backgrounds. If they share similar backgrounds, communication between them could be more fluent due to shared expertise and thinking patterns. If they have different backgrounds, they could understand and address company issues and opportunities from various angles. This diversified perspective might guide a broader selection of strategies and drive innovation. Additionally, the situation where the CEO also serves as the Chairman could enhance the efficiency of company operations, yet at the same time pose the risk of power being overly centralized. So, which setup is more suitable for Taiwan's semiconductor industry? Moreover, this research aims to explore how the facial features and sentimential characteristics of CEOs and Chairmen impact corporate risk and performance. This research collected performance data, crisis event data, executive data, and company data of publicly listed semiconductor companies in Taiwan from the Taiwan Economic Journal (TEJ) database. Using Python and SnowNLP, the facial and sentimental characteristics of CEOs and Chairmen were analyzed and statistically examined. The findings suggest that having complementary backgrounds does not impact the outcomes, while the dual roles of a CEO as a Chairman, the facial characteristics of both the CEO and the Chairman, and the language used by the Chairman, are all related to corporate risk and performance.
