The adjacent buildings often are ignored in excavation simulations. This practice however may lead to undesirable engineering behaviors of designed excavations in the urban environment. This issue has increasing importance, as urban buildings are getting closer and closer to each other, and interactions between existing buildings and the new excavation are expected to increase accordingly. This study presents the effect of adjacent building on a new excavation through numerous simulations using finite element program- Plaxis is to carry out so many excavation adjacent building models. Numerical results helps to show the effect of adjacent buildings on 1) ground surface settlement, 2)horizontal wall movement, 3)bending moment in the wall and 4)forces in struts. These effects are analyzed and illustrated with varying parameters. The influences of adjacent building onto the new excavation are then inferred. The results show distance of building and excavation, building weight greatly affect on interested excavation behaviors while building stiffness have insignificant influence on excavation
