Recently, mobile devices become indispensable tool for users, and different sizes of mobile devices are gradually applied to many fields, such as entertainment and e-learning. Web developers program a conceptual website which can adapt to different types of mobile devices to enhance the user web-browsing experience since the uses of mobile devices for internet are more population now. According to the size of user’s mobile device, responsive web design (RWD) websites can be reorganized the structure, concept, re-layout the web pages and navigated the users so that users could reach the goals even on limited screen devices. However, responsive web design website is a new web technique which is provided to the increasing population of mobile devices users. So far, there is lack of tool which has not been used to evaluate the usability of interface design. Consequently, it could not be evaluated systematically and confirmed if its design is simplicity, effectiveness, and satisfied with the demand of interaction between users and websites.
Therefore, this study aims to develop a usability checklist to evaluate the responsive web design, which can be rapidly evaluated by experts and bring improvement to the results. In order to testify the checklist developed by this study, whether it can evaluate the responsive web design effectively. Experts with ergonomics backgrounds conducted the usability evaluations of four RWD websites by using checklist which was proposed in this study. It collected participants’ objective browsing tasks and subjective satisfaction questionnaire among four RWD websites and three screen dimensions and analyzed with two factorial mixed designs.
Finally, comparing the consistency between experts’ evaluation and experiment data analysis, the results showed that usability of these four RWD websites were matched. It illustrated that the checklist which was proposed in this study has a highly judgment to insight the lacks of the usability among RWD websites.
