  • 近年來台灣教師使用英語當作教學媒介的人數逐漸增加中,然而,相關方面的研究大部分還是以高等教育為主,針對國中教師及學生看法的研究卻很少。因此,本研究旨在探討國中英語教師及學生對於使用英語作為上課教學媒介的看法。此研究共有244位國中學生以及3位英語教師參與,分別來自新北市三間不同的學校。研究方法採用質性和量化,包含學生問卷、學生訪談以及教師訪談。研究結果顯示,贊同英語授課能提升學習動機及興趣的人數多於不贊同的人數。甚至超過半數的學生及老師認為使用英語授課的方式確實可以提升他們的英文能力,尤其是聽力及口說能力。然而,對於未來是否希望以英語當作教學媒介,贊成全英語教學的人數只比不贊成的人數略多一些而已。此外,此研究也發現那些老師選擇英語當作上課教學媒介,主要的動機是想要提供學生全英語學習環境以便提升他們英文能力。 再者,這些老師也認為使用全英語授課的教學方式有必要被實施於國中教育階段。

    In recent years, the number of the teachers using English as a medium of instruction (EMI) in Taiwan is increased. However, most of the previous studies were conducted in higher education. Little research on EMI has been done with junior high school studetnts and teachers. Therefore, the main goal of the research is to investigate junior high school teachers' and students' perspectives on EMI in English classes. The participants include 244 students and 3 teachers from three different junior high schools in New Taipei. Both qualitative and quantitative research methods are applied, including questionnaires and interviews. The results show that the number of the students who agreed their interests and motivations to learn English in EMI classes were inspired is more than that of the students who disagreed, and even over half of them agreed that EMI could help them improve their English language proficiency, especially in terms of listening and speaking abilities. However, as for the preference for EMI comprehensively to be implemented in English classes in the future, the frequency of the agreement is just a little higher than that of the disagreement. In addition, the research also reveals that the teachers using EMI in classes had motivation to give their students the whole English learning environment so as to improve their English abilities and agreed that EMI should be implemented comprehensively in junior high schools.
